It's Almost Calorie Overload Time Again

Halloween is just around the corner, but, for some reason, the number of trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood has declined drastically over the past few years.

I suspect the decline is due to concern for the safety of the children involved and the increase in other activities like supervised parties.

Unfortunately, the lack of trick-or-treaters hasn't been good for MY waistline. Despite the decline in trick-or-treaters at our door, we still seem to think we must keep bags and bags of "fun size" candy bars on hand, just in case we are suddenly flooded with 50 or 60 little witches and goblins wanting a treat.

And---what do you think happens to all those candy bars once we have distributed half a dozen or so to those few neighborhood kids that still love to ring the doorbell, and ask for a treat?

You guessed it. My husband and I are stuck holding the bag--or should I say bags, and believe me, we are getting very good at quickly disposing of the contents.

Halloween Imagination

When our grandchildren were smaller, their parents would get them dressed up in their Halloween costumes, and appear at our door early Halloween evening, to "surprise us." The range of costumes was fantastic, and I could hardly wait to see what they had come up with each year. The little girl in today's guest post had an idea that my grandchildren never thought of, but one I think was a great one. Even though she decided not to follow through with her idea, I could just imagine how cute would have looked like on one of my own grandchildren.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, not for the spooky goblins or scary horror movies, but for the candy and crazy imaginative costumes. I asked my four year old what she wanted to be this year. After spending some time thinking, she blurted out “A PENCIL!” Trying to be supportive, I shared her http://www.securitychoice.com/ and became determined to encourage her imagination and find or make a pencil costume. I just had no idea where to begin!

Once my husband came home from work we decided to travel to Indianapolis. They have several specialty stores that open every year just for the Halloween season. We figured t hey would be our best hope of either finding exactly what we wanted to giving our daughter inspiration to choose something different!

Recently I had a adt home security alarm installed. So, before we left I was anxious to turn it on. With my husband's crazy schedule, I want to feel safe those nights he travels. After driving the hour it takes to get to the other side of Indianapolis, my finally arrived at the Halloween Extravaganza. Before even stepping out of the car our daughter had already began rethinking her pencil costume! Once inside, it was hard to choose just one. From princess fairies to bank robber costumes, my daughters imagination was on over load! She finally settled into a Jessie Cowgirl Costume from Toy Story. She looks so cute!
