The hernia I referred to in my last blog was repaired, but still the pain remained.
More doctors' exams. A second surgery to remove the tumor provided the welcome news that it was still benign, in spite of its decade long growth spurt, but no relief from the pain. Perhaps, one doctor suggested, it could be my appendix.
Today, after my umteenth exam by yet another doctor, I have been scheduled for a new MRI scan next week. More co-pays, more appointments to discuss the results of the scan, and, most likely, more surgery in an attempt to erradicate the pain that has been plaguing me for many months now.
Not only am I running out of money for co-payments; I fear my insurance company is running out of patience and wondering if it isn't time to throw this "grandma" under the bus.
Whatever happened to the old fashioned trip to the doctor, a few well-placed pokes in the sore spot, and a prompt decision that brought lasting results?
All this pondering about health care is proving to be very bad for my health.
