Reminder That Fathers' Day is Just Around the Corner

When I was a kid, ( a long, long time ago,) my Father subscribed to several magazines; Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, and The Handyman.

My sisters and I were amazed at the unending projects my Dad turned out from information he found in those magazines.  Popular Science, alone, had an amazing rocking horse pattern; model airplane plans; and instructions for making a quilting frame.

Our Mother and the neighbor ladies made more quilts than I could count on that quilting frame, while spending pleasant afternoons visiting as they quilted.  The model airplanes Dad built provided many Saturdays of fun, although we sometimes had difficulty getting him to let us have a turn.  He was like a big kid when he cranked up those little home-built models.

The other day, I ran across a magazine called The Family Handyman.  I don't know if it is the same magazine that my Dad used to get once a month, but the layout is similar, and it has instructions for all kinds of projects. I noticed lots of remodeling ideas; now all I need to do is to get my husband on board and by this time next month, I should have new kitchen cabinets.

If your Dad is into "do-it-yourself" projects, your quest for the perfect Fathers' Day gift is over.  Most Dads I know would love to get a subscription to The Family Handyman, and be able to look forward to a whole year of "handy" ideas delivered right to their mailbox.
