A young man in our town, Aaron Jamison, is suffering from wide-spread cancer and has been told he can only expect to live a few more weeks. Over the past few months, he and his wife of 4 years have done all kinds of things to raise money for living expenses and for his ever-increasing medical bills.
Kristin, Aaron's wife makes jewelry and sells it from her website. The Joy of Glass
Aaron even sold advertising on his own decorated cremation urns. (This story was covered in depth by our local newspaper.) To view Aaron's blog on the urns as well as the story of his journey through cancer, visit his site at: Judas Forgiven
Having been told that Aaron's remaining time was short, they advertised on Craig's List for a room mate to share expenses so Kristin could afford to stay at home to care for Aaron. In spite of the cancer, Aaron and Kristin have chosen, "Choose Joy!" as their motto for life and when you meet them, it is evident that they put that motto into practice in their daily lives.
I met them both at a local pizza parlor that was holding a fund-raising event for them.
The young couple also sells T-Shirts, bracelets, caps, and, most recently, tennis shoes printed with "Cancer Sucks," on them. Click Here to check it out.
It was the tennis shoes that really caught my eye. You see, my 11-year-old granddaughter is going through a stage where she thinks skulls are cool. Aaron and Kristen have combined a skull with the phrase, "Cancer Sucks," and the colors pink and black to come up with an attention-getting pair of tennies that sell for $60.
Take a look at them and see if you don't agree that the shoes would be a great walking advertisement to support the fight against cancer, and that by buying a pair for someone in your own family, you would also be helping a young couple who have already gone through more pain and struggle than any young couple should have to bear.
