If you've been thinking about writing a novel, but have put it off for various reasons---you need to read this Associated Content article about a national writing competition that could jump-start that Great American Novel you've been planning to write.
NaNoWriMo
I know that November is a bad month, but if others can do it, why can't we? For some reason, I really want to give NaNoWriMo a try this year. Have any of you ever tried it?
If you've never heard of this writing contest, it takes place every November when thousands of contestants sign up to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Apparently, lots of people complete the challenge and go on to actually revise and sell their 30-day creations. You can't start ahead of time, which would eliminate working on a project you are already in the middle of, and you submit your word count daily. I don't know all the rules, but I'm going to sign up, just in case, on Nov. 1st, I decide to take the plunge and at least give it a try.
No one is going to scold me if I don't make it for the whole 50,000 words, and, if I do, I get an online emblem to post on my website. That might be fun. Let me know if any of you decide to enter this finger abusing marathon. I hate the idea of doing it all alone.
