I am astounded at the millions of dollars that have been spent on the 2008 campaign for president. It is also interesting to see that the more money a candidate spends, the higher his ranking in the polls. Since most of the people I talk to don’t believe either Senator McCain or Senator Obama will actually be able to deliver on the promises they are making, it makes me wonder---
1. Do people actually look into the records and qualifications of those running for office, or do they just vote for the person who spends the most on advertising to keep his or her name constantly in front of the voters?
2. Is it morally right to spend all these millions on what seems to be a popularity contest while people are losing jobs and homes all over the country?
I recently checked out a site that gives the amount each candidate has raised during this campaign, how much they have spent, and how much debt their campaign owes. The results through the end of September were:
Senator McCain
Raised just under $250,000,000.00
Spent $200,000,000.00
Owes $76,000.00
Senator Obama
Raised $460,000,000.00
Spent $368,000,000.00
Owes $469,000.00
Ralph Nader
Raised $3,000,000.00
Spent $2,000,000.00
Owes $0
Strange isn’t it, how the less one spends in campaigning, the less chance the candidate has of ever getting into office? Kind of blows the idea that, IN AMERICA, anyone can become president, doesn’t it?
