My name is Jeanne, and I think I'm addicted to building websites.
I love to purchase brand new domain names, rush over to my Hostgator account, and start building new websites. It's a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle to me. If I fit all the pieces together just right, I will end up with something beautiful to look at.
At least that is how a new website is supposed to be, but not all of mine turn out that way. In fact, I have a couple that, so far, have ended with just a domain name and a blank website. I can't explain why this happens. A domain name often sounds perfect one moment and by noon the next day, I am wondering why I ever bought that ridiculous name.
Today, I have almost 20 websites. Some are fairly nice to look at, if I do say so myself. Others are pretty primitive. Do I make a lot of money from them? No. In fact, I have made practically nothing from any of them, even though a couple of them have hit the front page of Google several times.
Why, then, you are probably wondering, do I continue to waste time and money creating worthless websites. Isn't the point of having a website to earn money?
Money probably is the goal of making a website for most people, but, since I don't really need extra money, it is more the challenge of trying to make profitable websites that has me hooked. I'll admit that after 20 of them, I am beginning to wonder if any of them will ever pay back even the cost of the domain name, but I have learned something new from each one I make so I look at them as a not-too-expensive hobby that has a side benefit of teaching me stuff. (Not that I wouldn't sell most of them in an instant if anyone was interested in buying them, but so far, I haven't learned how to go about selling sites.)
This week though, I decided it was time to rein in my addiction a bit. I bought the new domain name, "Paleorecipesgalore," thinking that the new frenzy over eating Paleo food might pay off. The problem is that that I have a brand-new website called Paleo Recipes Galore, but I haven't the foggiest notion of what to put on it. Since I am not serving Paleo food to my family, and I'm not in the mood to research Paleo recipes, I guess anyone who happens to visit will just end up finding an empty page with a title to look at.
Below are most of my current sites. If you have any suggestions to help me cure this addition, don't
hesitate to make a comment. Maybe, when I learn how to sell websites, I
will bundle them all up, sell, them, and start all over again. After all, the fun for me is in the making. In the mean-time, I am doing my best to keep from adding to the list. Cross your fingers for me.
